Musings on the Time Magazine Article
Recently Time Magazine published an article named "Why Exercise Won't make you Thin" by John Cloud http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1914857,00.html
I thought I would respond:
Exercise is essential for weight loss, because without strength-training, you will lose both fat AND muscle, and that will lead to a diminished metabolism. You must perform strength-training or you are doomed to fail.
That being said, the article in Time magazine is interesting. There is a relationship between exercise and the desire to reward oneself.
I did gain almost 20lbs by training for triathlons. For some reason I thought a bagel with cream cheese after a 70 mile bike ride was fine. So, was the McDonalds Milk Shake after running intervals for a hour at the track. Fast forward 10 years...
I actually lost body fat and weight when I had a little baby and he wouldn't sit for more than 30 minutes at a time waiting for me to workout. I had to workout more efficiently and harder. I also "compensated" by eating really strictly!
Although today, our kids are older and would put up with a 2 hour workout, I am pleased with the results that a really intense workout gives me. Time management is awesome. We also have an active lifestyle. I walk my dog, we hike on weekends, we play in the swimming pool with our kids.
I buy only organic, grass fed all natural meats. We eat tons of fresh veggies and fruit. We are trying to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Exercise enhances life and allows for a better quality of life. Perhaps for some, that’s not important. But as leisure activities take a back seat and calorie consumption increases (women eat an average of 300 calories a day more than 30 yrs. ago), we need to take a long hard look at our lifestyle. A healthy weight is a byproduct of healthy living.
In the past we grew our our own food, cleaned our laundry with our hands, walked to school, did our own gardening. . .we moved all the time. Moving is good. Eating healthy is good.
Just my musings on the article.

Photoshop Diet
If you type 'Photoshop diet' into YouTube you get an alarming number of these behind the scenes photo manipulation videos, which leave me feeling rather amazed and sick at the same time. I believe it's great that technology is so advanced yet it also sickens me to think that the world sees such a distorted image. It saddens me that young girls across the globe look up to a fake image and sigh and say "I wish I looked that gorgeous/pretty/amazing/thin..." when in fact the image has been photoshopped to death!
This video is an older one which I am sure many readers will have seen yet I believe it is good to watch it again....
I invite you to share this with young girls you know.

Introducing Aimee Boschet...
NAME: Aimee Boschet
BUSINESS: Garden Adornments, AGardenToRemember.blogspot.com
LOCATION: Northridge, California
AGE: 35
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING FOR: I started my Blog two months ago.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST: My Children inspire me to be the best person and Mother I can be. Design, Decorating, Antiques, Architectural Salvage, Photography, and Anything French inspire me to be creative. I am also very inspired by other Woman Entrepreneurs.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME: Honestly, with two children I don't have too much free time, so when I do I am usually either designing new pillows for my Collection, working on my Blog or shopping for antiques with friends.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS BLOG:
When I was asked to be a Contributer to Woman's World I was very flattered and when I visited the Blog I really loved the concept. What it comes down to is that it doesn't matter where we live or what we do but, that we are all in search of the same things: happiness, love, understanding and finding joy in the things that we love to do, whether it be work, family, creating, anything! We are all searching for a sense of peace and balance...
YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO SPEND TIME: Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades. It is a serene and calming place that I go to when I need to completely relax from the stresses of life. There is a large lake in the center and a pathway that goes all the way around it. It is somewhat hidden and as soon as I walk in I feel a sense of peace come over me. It really is a magical place!
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED: I can't honestly say I can think of any one thing someone has told me. I do feel that MY best piece of advice would be to always follow your heart and believe in yourself and be true to who you are, regardless of what others may think. That is the only way in my opinion that you can truly be happy in life!

Why do we continue to beat ourselves up with a whip when we could be using a feather?
I posted this on my Safe Space Blog in July and because I believe we could all use a feather at certain times, I wanted to share it with you all here in this space!
I heard this saying the other day.....and it got me thinking....
We often treat ourselves so harshly, we are sometimes our own worse critics and we judge ourselves too fiercely. Why do we do this? Well, in my opinion, it is because we feel we need to always be doing stuff. We start doing something we enjoy only to think we should be doing something else. So we go do the other thing and then start to question if this is the best use of our time. We chop and change and muddle ourselves into a place where we are frustrated and upset.
We can choose what we give attention to. At work, at home, at play, in our interactions with people. We can focus on the why of everything or we can choose to stop and become conscious of where our thoughts are taking us. If we can begin to see a pattern of self-abuse (and that is really what is going on here) we can say to ourselves....Am I beating myself up with a whip or can I bring out the feather?
Become more gentle with ourselves. We are not superhuman, we cannot do everything all of the time, we can cultivate ways to have time to just be and not feel like we have to be always on the go. Constantly jumping from one thing to the next.
- When you are feeling tired and under pressure- Breathe, drop your shoulders, stretch, let out a sigh and a big yawn....
- When it is a certain time of the month and you can't concentrate on much at all- bring out the feather......lie down, shut your eyes for as long as you can....if you are at work (and if you can) excuse yourself and take a gentle walk, even if it is only 5 minutes.
- Don't think of complex problems or try to find solutions when all you are doing is running around headless and making more work for yourself.....STOP and ask yourself, what do I need right at this moment to cultivate a bit of self-care and love in which I may find the answers?
- Plan a free weekend....no plans, nowhere to go or people to see.
- Make a list of things you could do when you feel it's feather time....My list includes: Taking a bubble bath, listen to a whole album whilst lying on the couch (with nothing else to do), immerse myself in a good fiction novel, meditate, listen to Hay House Radio archives.
